Some candles smell like a candle. This one smells like walking into a sun-drenched kitchen where someone just cut into a lemon and the whole room woke up. Heslip Home's Freshly Squeezed is a bright, clean citrus fragrance — Citron, Lemon, and Bergamot — that lifts the energy of a room without trying too hard. Poured into a clean glass jar with a metal lid, in small batches, by hand, right here in Edmonton.
Why We Love It
- The scent that makes every room feel more alive. Citron, Lemon, and Bergamot is a citrus combination with genuine depth — bright and sharp from the Lemon and Citron, softened by the floral-green note of Bergamot that keeps it from tipping into cleaning-product territory. The result is a fragrance that feels fresh and uplifting without being aggressive. It works in a kitchen, a bathroom, a bedroom, a living room — the scent that is always appropriate and always welcome.
- Coconut Soy wax — the cleaner burn. The blend of coconut and soy wax burns cleaner than paraffin, produces less soot, and throws fragrance more evenly throughout the burn. It also results in a slower, more consistent burn than 100% paraffin — meaning the 9oz jar lasts meaningfully longer than a paraffin candle of the same size.
- Cotton wick — no metal, no additives. A natural cotton wick that burns cleanly and consistently, without the soot or chemical additions that come with some wick alternatives. The cotton wick curls as it burns, which helps it self-trim and reduces the risk of a large, uneven flame.
- Hand-poured in Edmonton, Alberta. Every Heslip Home candle is hand-poured in small batches — which means the fragrance concentration is consistent from pour to pour, and the quality control happens at the hands of the people making them rather than on an assembly line. Made in the same city as Cloud Nine's stores, by a maker who cares about getting it right.
- Glass jar with metal lid — the vessel that earns its place. A clean, minimal glass jar with a fitted metal lid that keeps the fragrance contained between burns and sits beautifully on any surface. The lid is the detail that makes this gift-ready straight from the shelf — no extra wrapping required.
The Full Story
Heslip Home is an Edmonton-based candle maker focused on clean, well-crafted home fragrance — the kind of candle that gets noticed when it's lit and missed when it isn't. Freshly Squeezed is one of their signature scents: the citrus combination that manages to feel both energising and calming, depending entirely on what you need from it.
"The candle that makes people walk into the room and immediately ask what's burning. The answer is always Freshly Squeezed."
Supporting a local Edmonton maker means something. Heslip Home pours in small batches, which means every candle on the shelf was made recently and with attention. That's a different product than something warehoused and shipped from across the country.

Good to Know
How long does a 9oz candle burn?
A 9oz coconut soy candle burns for approximately 50–60 hours with proper care — trimming the wick to ¼" before each burn, keeping the candle away from drafts, and allowing the wax to pool fully to the edges on the first burn. The first burn is the most important — a full melt pool on the first use prevents tunnelling and ensures the candle burns evenly for its full life.
How do I get the most out of it?
Trim the wick to ¼" (about 6mm) before every burn. On the first burn, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar — this takes approximately 2–3 hours and prevents a tunnel from forming down the centre. Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Keep away from drafts, which cause uneven burning and excessive soot.
Is coconut soy wax better than paraffin?
For most purposes, yes. Coconut soy wax burns cleaner (less soot), throws fragrance more evenly, and burns more slowly — which means a longer-lasting candle from the same amount of wax. It is also a more renewable resource than paraffin, which is a petroleum derivative.
Can I reuse the jar?
Yes — the glass jar with metal lid is a genuinely beautiful vessel once the candle has burned down. Clean out any remaining wax with hot water and a cloth, and the jar makes an excellent small storage container, plant pot, or desk organiser. The metal lid keeps it clean between uses.
Is this available for shipping across Canada?
Yes — the Heslip Home Freshly Squeezed Candle is available at all three Cloud Nine Edmonton locations and ships within Canada. Available while quantities last.
