The Full Story

A women's reversible maxi slip dress in the Flight of Fancy print: a bouquet drawn from 1700s floral paintings, with a hummingbird on one side and a butterfly on the other. It's soft, flowy viscose with adjustable straps and an oversized cut, so you can wear it with the hummingbird or the butterfly on the front, depending on your mood. It's a wardrobe staple for layering, errands, dancing, lounging or napping, and it travels well. The viscose is slightly sheer, so a slip underneath is recommended with bare legs. Sizes SM/MD and LG/XL.

Size Guide

Size Length, shortest strap Length, longest strap Width across bust (flat) Width across waist seam (flat)
SM/MD 132 cm (52″) 142 cm (55.9″) 52 cm (20.5″) 54 cm (21.3″)
LG/XL 134 cm (52.8″) 144 cm (56.7″) 57 cm (22.4″) 59 cm (23.2″)
Widths are measured flat, underarm to underarm, so double them for the full circumference. The cut is oversized and the straps adjust. Both models (5'9″ and 5'6″) wear an SM/MD.

Good to Know

Is it reversible?
Yes. Wear it with the hummingbird on the front, or flip it and wear the butterfly on the front.

Is it see-through?
Slightly. The viscose is soft and a little sheer, so a slip (or any slip you already own) is recommended when you're wearing it with bare legs. The models in the photos wear it without one.

How long is it?
The adjustable straps change the length: 132 to 142 cm (about 52 to 56″) in SM/MD, and 134 to 144 cm (about 53 to 57″) in LG/XL.

What's the story behind the print?
Hummingbirds are tiny beings of wonder: lighter than a nickel, the only birds that can fly backwards as well as forwards, and famous for their big hearts for their size. They're symbols of hope, healing and luck, and are sometimes said to carry well-wishes from loved ones. A flock is called a glitter, a shimmer or a bouquet. The bouquet in this print is a collage of 1700s floral paintings, including several by Rachel Ruysch, a celebrated still-life painter and the first woman inducted into The Hague's painters' society.

How do I wear it?
In cooler months, with a cashmere cardigan or velvet blazer in soft black or grey and a scarf. For summer, with a sheer lace shawl, delicate jewelry and strappy sandals. For something more romantic, under the matching Flight of Fancy Opera Duster, cinched at the waist with a gold belt and vintage-inspired heels.

How do I care for it?
Handwash or machine wash on gentle and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
